Dawn Reid

Meander Valley Midwifery

Dawn is an Endorsed Private Practice Midwife (EPPM) and commenced practice in 2016, formerly Director of Lockyer Valley Midwifery in Queensland. The EPPM qualifications in prescribing, diagnostics, and pharmacology allowed provider and prescriber numbers to be attained for claiming Medicare and Hicap rebates, additionally, the ability to prescribe medications and order medical imaging. Dawn moved to Tasmania in 2021 to pursue a PhD and chase a lifestyle change. Currently halfway through her PhD, Dawn missed being with women in the midwifery space. Hence, Meander Valley Midwifery was commenced in 2026 with the first clinic in April 2026.

Dawn was a finalist for Hesta midwife of the year in 2020 and became a Fellow of the Australian College of Midwives in 2024. Dawn has most recently completed a Master’s in Research with the University of Technology Sydney under the expert midwifery supervision of the esteemed Professor Kathleen Baird and Associate Professor Vanessa Scarf. The thesis: Endorsed Private Practice Midwives experiences of providing homebirth services in Australia. Dawn is extremely passionate about ensuring all pregnant people have access to quality midwifery care, particularly in rural areas. Furthermore, Dawn is a strong advocate for women’s choice in pregnancy, birth, and beyond. Dawn is also currently a manager at the ANMF, assisting and advocating for members in Tasmania.

Dawn started Nursing in New Zealand in 1991 after receiving qualifications. A long career followed. Progressing to a Staff Nurse, then a few years later a Public Health Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, Clinical Nurse, Paediatric Nurse, Industrial Medic, Midwifery Nurse Manager, Clinical Midwifery Consultant, and many other various positions over the last thirty years. Since obtaining a Midwifery qualification in 2010, Dawn advanced to Clinical Midwife with experience in management and policy over this time. At the beginning of 2014, Dawn commenced employment as a Caseload Midwife, loving the sensible continuity model familiar from her birth country, New Zealand. The progression to private practice was inevitable and absolutely wonderful, with the support and mentorship of a beautiful, most experienced homebirth midwife; the transition was seamless.

Most importantly, a mother of four beautiful kids, and very much aware of the challenges of becoming a parent and parenting in general. ” I believe in holistic care, covering all aspects of pregnancy, birth, antenatal and postnatal whilst supporting the entire family and extended family to make the entire experience the most beautiful, empowering and memorable of your life.”
